AF&G Hosts Two Ice Fishing Derbies

One for kids, one for all ages

By Amanda Gross, Andover Fish and Game Club

Winter is in full swing, and that means it’s time to go ice fishing with the Andover Fish and Game Club (AF&G).

The Al Chadwick Memorial Ice Fishing Derby, sponsored by AF&G, is being held on Saturday, February 2, at Kezar Lake in North Sutton. This derby is open to anyone. It costs $10 per entry, and there will be cash prizes awarded for each category.

The derby starts at first light and ends at 1 PM. Please bring your own tackle, bait, and food. When you arrive, register at the bobhouse with the red flag on it at the west end of the lake. If you have any questions, call 735-5815.

Kids Ice Fishing Derby

The Willis Nowell Memorial Kids Ice Fishing Derby, for kids 15 and under, will be held on Eagle Pond in Wilmot (off of Route 4) on Saturday, February 23. (Bad weather date is Sunday, February 24.) Registration begins at 9 AM, and the derby runs from 9:30 AM to noon.

Tackle and bait will be provided, and there will be plenty of free food and drink. Lucky prizes, participation ribbons, and trophies will be awarded. Come join the AF&G for a fun time with the family. Call 735-5311 with any questions.

Thank you to everyone who has attended our fundraising events, which make it possible for the AF&G to sponsor fun, kid-friendly experiences like this Ice Fishing Derby. An important mission of the AF&G is to educate the public, particularly children, about the outdoors, wildlife, and outdoor sports such as hunting and fishing. We always appreciate your support.
