People - Deaths - 160526 OrdwayLily (Wolfenden) Ordway, 81 , of South Danbury died on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in Norwich, Connecticut on January 19, 1935, the daughter of Leonard Wolfenden and Lily (Williams) Wolfenden Huntoon.

Lily graduated from Andover High School in 1953. She worked for various firms including the New Hampshire Association for the Blind, Page Belting Company, and Mountain Meadows Greenhouse in Danbury. From 1984 to 1997 she had been a clerk in the lab at the New London Hospital. After her retirement in 1997, she worked for Accumail in New London.

She lived in Danbury for over 60 years, was a member of the Andover Congregational Church, and also attended the South Danbury Christian Church. Active in town affairs, Lily had been Treasurer for the Town of Danbury, Trustee of Trust Funds, and Supervisor of the Checklist. She was clerk for the Andover Congregational Church, former Treasurer of the Andover Fish and Game Club, and had been secretary and treasurer for the Danbury PTA. She was secretary and treasurer for the Scouts Pack 52, secretary of the Helping Hands Circle, chairperson and secretary of the Waukeena Extension, and chairperson of the Bike-A-Thon for St. Jude’s Hospital.

Above all, Lily loved being with her family. She enjoyed scrapbooking, knitting, and crocheting.

Her husband of 48 years, Gordon C. Ordway, died in 2006, and their daughter, Linda Maines, died in 1999. Members of her family surviving include two sons and their wives: Gordon C. Jr. and Wendy Ordway and Brian L. and Alison Ordway, all of Danbury; her son-in-law and his wife, Richard and Cori Maines of Danbury; seven grandchildren: Eric and his wife Gen, Craig, Kelly, Curtis, Ryan, Blake, and Madison; one great-granddaughter, Peyton; two sisters, Germaine Lorden of Louisiana and Dorothy West of Virginia; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of Lily’s life will be held on Monday, May 30, at 2 PM at Ordway’s field, 20 Walker Brook Road, Danbury, with Reverend John Wagner  officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Andover Congregational Church, Save the Grange Hall, 1 Chase Hill Road, East Andover NH 03231.
