Meditation Class

Saturday, July 16 10:00am

Meditation is a process of transforming the mind. It enhances clarity, concentration, relaxation and positive mind states while alleviating stress, anxiety, depression and other medical conditions. This is done by focusing the mind, staying present and being aware of thoughts. We will be sitting in chairs and will be doing some silent/guided meditation sessions along with contemplations. No prior meditation experience is necessary. Classes will be guided by Ilene Venizelos. For questions or to register, please call COA at 526-6368.

Humanist & Agnostic Discussion Group

Thursday, July 21 1:30pm

Try as we might, we cannot stay on topic. At the May meeting the topic was to be spirituality and instead we spent most of the time talking about religion and death, and whether or not to have a grave and a grave marker. The discussion leader had great difficulty pulling the group back to the announced topic. By the time you read this we would have already had our June meeting at which we are supposed to continue our discussion of spirituality, and especially the concept of soul. Can one choose to reject religion and still believe in a human soul? If so, do other living things have souls? And what exactly is a soul? Has anyone ever seen one? That should be enough to keep us busy, but if experience is a guide, we will no doubt stray off topic to whatever is interesting and worth sharing. Come join us.
