School’s Out for the Summer!

The last day of school is always a fun celebration

By Jane Slayton, AE/MS principal

The last day of school is always a fun and activity-filled day! This year, the special day fell on June 16.

Mr. Silverstein organized games for all grades in the morning. The games are non-competitive, energizing, and contain lots of movement. Freeze pops are a treat in the morning. The PTO also arranges for snow cones for all, which is a big treat!

A school-wide barbecue was held, with parents grilling and serving. There was plenty of food for all. After the barbecue, students gathered back in the gym for awards and good-byes.

The Andover Lions Club Citizenship Award had been presented at eighth grade graduation, but on the last day of school the details were shared with all the students, and a big round of applause was given to Lily Menard and Bryson Cate.

Super Readers from grade three were recognized for the hours they spent reading beyond the school day. Ice cream certificates were given to Olivia James Bentzler, Mychal Reynolds, Cody Provost, Abby James Bentzler, Paige Makechnie, Emma Chadbourne, and Ben Kelly.

Ms. Lisa Lane recognized all the middle school mentors, each of whom gave of their time this year to support a younger student. The program was very successful. “How Well Do You Know Your Little Buddy” was played on stage, to the delight of the audience. It was quite humorous! The mentors all received ice cream certificates for their dedication.

Anna Warzocha was recognized for connecting 1,349 dots to create a nature picture.

Perfect Attendance Awards were given to Sophia Croteau, Wyatt Barton, Moriah Sirois, Kaden Fanny, Olivia James Bentzler, Dante Mori, Enrico Mori, and Kyleigh Fanny. It should be noted that Kaden Fanny, a third grader, has never missed a day of school, and Kyleigh Fanny, a seventh grader, has not missed a day since second grade. Students with perfect attendance were given Pizza Chef gift certificates, and they also have the honor of ringing the Proctor Academy bell on the Fourth of July.

On a monthly basis throughout the school year, the custodians recognize and award clean classrooms. Two classrooms are consistently clean at the end of the day. The Golden Brooms of 2016 were awarded to Mr. Wiley’s first grade class and to Mrs. Crucitti’s fourth grade class.

Good-byes and well wishes were shared with students who might not be returning in the fall. Several staff members will also be moving on. They will be missed, but it is hoped they will come back and visit their Andover friends from time to time.

Mrs. Heidi Unger, Ms. Kristine Lane, Mrs. Diane Adams, and Mrs. Jen Carson will not be at AE/MS when students return in the fall. It should be noted that Mrs. Adams has already volunteered to help with Grandparent Thanksgiving in the fall, which is something she has done for at least 16 years.
