Thoreau Dormitory Fire Damages Nearby Home

Marj and Reggie Roy displaced until October

The fire that destroyed Proctor's Thoreau House dormitory on Lawrence Street at the end of June also took a serious toll on Marj and Reggie Roy's house next door. The intense fire melted all the siding on the north and west sides of the home. The fire fighters had to hose down the structure aggressively to keep it from igniting, and the water caused extensive damage in the house and in the basement. Marj and Reggie have had to move out in order for repairs to begin; they hope to return by October. Photo: Meghan Barton
