Protecting Halcyon Island’s Habitat Top Priority

Halcyon Island is special to all of us and to wildlife. The Andover Select Board has designated the island as a carry-in, carry-out facility, so when you picnic, please be sure that whatever you take over to the island goes back with you. In an effort to protect the island, open fires and overnight camping are prohibited. We are very fortunate to have loons that return to the island each year (including two baby chicks this year), and it is very important that their nests are undisturbed by people or animals. Please enjoy your trips to the island and honor these rules. Caption: Town Administrator Marj Roy. Photo: Donna Baker-Hartwell
