Robert J. Downes Sr., 70, of Franklin, died at his home on September 12, 2016.

He was born in Hanover on April 20, 1946, the son of Phillip and Daisy Belle (Sawyer) Downes. Mr. Downes was raised in Andover and resided in Franklin for several years.

He was employed by Stanley Tools in Franklin for 22 years and later at Control Molding before retiring. He enjoyed fishing, following the Red Sox and Patriots, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Family members include three children: Robert J. Downes of Northfield, Phillip Downes of Concord, and Cheryl Downes of Franklin; four grandchildren; two sisters: Florence Fleury of Franklin and Mae Downes of Tilton; and nieces and nephews.
