By Janet Moore, Library Trustees

Many, many thanks from the Library Trustees go to the Andover Police and to Proctor Academy, the latter for hosting Robert Azzi’s presentation, and the former for providing safety and support. Mr. Azzi, a New Hampshire born Arab-American photojournalist, converted to Islam while living and working in the Middle East. In sharing his story, he opened a wide window into the cultures and religion of the Muslim world.

The Little Free Library at Highland Lake has been returned to its winter home at Library Director Gail Fitzpatrick’s house. Beach goers availed themselves of the free trade offering all summer, as Gail was pleased to note, and kept the “library boat” well stocked and in good shape. Thanks to all who participated in this delightful endeavor.

Jodi Picoult’s latest offering, “Small Great Things,” is based on the true story of a labor and delivery nurse who was prohibited from handling a newborn by the white supremacist father because she was African-American. In Picoult’s altered version, the nurse tries to save the baby’s life, fails, and is tried for murder by the parents. The author deals delicately and straightforwardly with the issues of racism and color that still plague our country. Sounds like a worthy read to me, especially with a few good friends.
