Ann P. (Emken) Meier, 79, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 28, 2016, at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen.

She was born on January 29, 1937 in Queens, New York, to Ella (Shoreys) Emken and James Edward Emken, Sr. Jointly falling in love with New Hampshire and wishing to raise their children here, in 1969 she and her husband, Roy E. Meier, moved from Long Island to Andover and proudly claimed New Hampshire as their home for the remainder of their lives.

Her most favorite role was being a Mom and taking care of her family. She enjoyed many years working at Freedom Acres in Wilmot, more recently retiring from Proctor Academy’s housekeeping department.

She enjoyed camping, especially at the Vermont state parks, sewing and crafts, bird watching, dancing, card games, bowling, horseshoes, and afternoon gatherings at the picnic table with family and friends.

Ann volunteered for many years with the Cub Scouts and the 4-H group while her children were involved. She had also been an active member of the Boscawen Congregational Church and volunteered at the Boscawen Food Pantry.

Family members include a twin brother, James Emken, Jr. and wife Lily Emken, of Melbourne, Florida; a son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Lisa Meier of Andover; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Mary Meier of Boscawen; a daughter and son-in-law, Patti Meier and Wayne Charette of Concord; three grandchildren: Brandon Meier and wife Amber of Tilton; Chelsae O’Halloran and husband Conor of Saunderstown, Rhode Island; Shelbi Vidal and husband Vinnie of Concord; and three step-grandchildren: Joshua Lane, Ashley Charette, and Nicholas Charette.

She was predeceased in 2011 by her husband of 54 years, Roy E. Meier, as well as by her grandson, Nicholas J. Meier, in 2004.

A memorial service was held on October 13 at 6 PM at the Boscawen Congregational Church. Directly following, all were invited to join the family for refreshments at the Boscawen Town Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Boscawen Food Pantry (checks payable to Boscawen Congregational Church; reference “Food Pantry” in memo line), 12 High St, Boscawen NH 03303, or to the Andover Food Pantry (checks payable to Andover Lions Club; reference “Food Pantry” in memo line) c/o Ellie George, 1 Bridge St, Andover NH 03216.
