US Senate, Democrat, Maggie Hassan

Opinion - Op Ed - HassanIn New Hampshire, we’ve shown that it’s possible to work across party lines to get things done. We balanced the budget without a sales or income tax. We’re taking a comprehensive, hands-on approach to our heroin and opioid crisis. We froze in-state tuition at our universities and lowered it at community colleges.

I’m running for Senate because I want to build on our progress here in New Hampshire and ensure that all of our people are included in our shared success. I want to help our middle class grow and thrive, and I want parents to once again feel confident that each generation will be better off than the last.

My first and foremost responsibility is to protect the safety and security of New Hampshire’s citizens, and keeping our nation safe and secure will remain my highest priority as United States Senator. In the Senate, my first order of business will be working to secure emergency federal funding to support states’ efforts to fight the heroin and opioid epidemic.

I have also put forward my Innovate NH 2.0 economic plan outlining additional priorities I will focus on in the Senate to support innovative businesses, help middle class families make ends meet, build a cleaner, more affordable energy future, and fix our roads, bridges, and other infrastructure systems. And I will always protect a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions.
