people-deaths-161023-fopianoRuth Irmela Dorrit Rosen Fopiano went to be with the Lord on October 23, 2016.  She was born in Tallinn, Estonia on May 8, 1927. She moved with her family to Sweden as refugees near the end of World War II.

In Stockholm, she studied biology at the University of Stockholm, where she met Paul Fopiano in a student Swedish Folk Dance Club. They continued this activity with the Swedish Folk Dance Club of Boston after settling in Massachusetts.

She and Paul married on September 8, 1955, moved to the US in 1956, raised their three children, Christina, Margareta, and Peter, in Winchester, Massachusetts, and retired to Potter Place to live in Paul’s childhood home.

In the 1970s, Ruth took up teaching high school biology at St. Columbkille High School in Brighton, Massachusetts, and during those years discovered a new passion for watching the Celtics. She also enjoyed playing tennis, dancing, knitting, sailing, leading nature walks, bird watching, and gardening. She was active in the Andover Service Club.

Friends may visit with the family from 11 AM until the time of the ceremony at noon, which will be held at the family home on Mill Road in Andover on Saturday, November 5. Burial will follow in Proctor Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Andover Service Club, PO Box 22, Andover NH 03216.
