Andover Libraries Prepare To Resume Book Club

By Janet Moore, Library Trustee

Our two librarians, Michelle Bengivengo and Priscilla Poulin, are gearing up for another round of the ABC’s this spring. That’s right, the Andover Book Club will take off again soon, and we hope you will join us. See Priscilla and Michelle for details and to pass along reading suggestions.

Time for ABC 2013!

The Andover Book Club (ABC) will be meeting in March to take suggestions from current and interested members about when and where the ABC should meet and what books should be read in 2013 … we are open to any and all suggestions! If you’d like to be part of this friendly and fun reading group, please join us and let your voice be heard on Wednesday, March 13, at the Andover Public Library at 7 PM. Refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!

Don’t forget to come to Town Hall on Friday, March 22, at 7 PM to learn about the Matryoshka, the painted wooden Russian nesting dolls. Marina Forbes will be in the meeting room to share a lovely presentation, and dessert will be served.

As for new books out and about, here’s a selection designed to appeal to a variety of tastes. Karen Russell, author of Swamplandia, has just written a short story collection; how does Vampires in the Lemon Grove sound? The Burgess Boys is Elizabeth Strout’s next excursion into the treacherous waters of Maine families, after the success of Olive Kitteridge. Ann Leary, wife of comedian and actor Dennis, gives us The Good House, a look at the possibility of contemporary Salem witchcraft.

American Sniper – The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in US Military History, by ex- Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, seems especially poignant, given his recent death. A History of Future Cities, by Daniel Brook, takes an in-depth look at St. Petersburg, Shanghai, Mumbai, and Dubai.

Finally, on the recommendation of both daughters, I read Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, a dynamite police procedural, and the plot twist halfway through will knock your socks off!
