Friends Program Bone Builders Exercise Classes

Tuesdays and Fridays 10 to 11 AM

This senior exercise program helps strengthen bone, build muscle and improve balance. You can exercise while seated or standing using small hand weights. Classes are held in the Newbury Heights Community Room, 52 Newbury Heights Road, Newbury.

Meditation Class

Saturday, April 1 and Saturday, April 22 10 AM

Meditation is a process of transforming the mind. It enhances clarity, concentration, relaxation and positive mind states while alleviating stress, anxiety, depression and other medical conditions. This is done by focusing the mind, staying present and being aware of thoughts. We will be sitting in chairs and will be doing some silent/guided meditation sessions along with contemplations. A Matter of Balance

A Matter of Balance is an 8-week structured program that emphasizes practical strategies to reduce fear of falling and increase activity levels. Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and exercise to increase strength and balance. Classes will be held on Thursdays from 12:30 to 2:30 PM between April 20 and June 8, 2017.

How is Your Hand Health?

Tuesday, April 18 at 3 PM

Cindy Weinberger with Valley Regional Hospital will address common hand conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger and thumb arthritis. Learn how to identify the symptoms of these conditions and what treatments and therapies are available. Cindy is an occupational therapist and certified hand therapist. She specializes in the non-operative treatment of hand, wrist and elbow issues. Please call COA at 526-6368 to register.

Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont

After the death of her husband, Mrs. Palfrey (Joan Plowright) moves to London with the hope of gaining her independence and seeing her grandson. While she is staying at a residential hotel for senior citizens, she meets writer Ludovic Meyer (Rupert Friend) when she trips and falls on the street in front of his home. An unlikely friendship flourishes between them, bolstered by the fact that the residents are under the impression that Ludovic is Mrs. Palfrey’s estranged grandson.
