Fish Farming for fun, food, and profit

Andover’s Harvey Pine, a Colby-Sawyer professor of environmental studies, described the pluses and minuses of aquaculture, the cultivation of fish in controlled conditions as a source of food, in a late March talk in the AE/MS library. Sponsored by the Andover Institute, Pine’s talk explained experiments he’s currently conducting at the University of New Hampshire, using brown bullhead, aka the familiar horned pout, from Highland Lake as the test species. Photo also shows species of catfish native to Africa, where Pine has also studied aquaculture.
