Charles ‘Peter’ Eck, 72, was surrounded by family when he died peacefully on September 8, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania after a lengthy battle with COPD and pulmonary fibrosis. Peter was born September 15, 1944, in Pensacola, Florida, and is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Paula Baynar Eck; his daughters, Christine Eck (Matthew Burke) of Lynnwood, Washington, and Jacqueline (Eck) Fry (Chris Fry) of Olympia, Washington; step-mother, Elizabeth C. Manahan of Andover, New Hampshire; siblings, William Eck, Jr. (Madeline), Jeanne Eck (Chuck Shepherd), Sara (Eck) Pullen (David), and John Eck (Liann Ainsworth); grandchildren, Madeleine, Ian and Zola; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and step-relatives. He is predeceased by his parents, William and Florence (Klewin) Eck, and twin brother, David Paul. He was a wonderful and loving father, son, brother and husband and will be greatly missed. 
Peter served in the Army from 1965-1968. After being honorably discharged, he continued to serve in the Pennsylvania National Guard and the Washington National Guard and Reserves until he retired as Lieutenant Colonel in 2004. Peter’s business career included executive positions with Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, Pennsylvania and Washington State Lotteries, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and Nintendo of America. While Peter enjoyed many professional successes and military awards, he remained a humble man. 
Peter was known for his kindness and generosity to both loved ones and strangers and was a true believer in random acts of kindness. He was also an avid reader, curious and interested in any topic, but most passionate about history, current events and politics. Peter loved to cook and was known as “Chef Pierre” for his delicious culinary creations. Peter had many friends and colleagues worldwide, but he most enjoyed being with his beloved Paula and devoted dog, Toby.
A memorial service was held October 14, 2017, at Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, Pennyslvania. Visitation was held at 1 PM with service at 2 PM. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or to a charity of choice.
