Farmers Market Fever Strikes Twice in Danbury

February may be short on days, however it’s long on opportunity to shop local.  Stop by the regular farmers market on Feb 3 from 9 AM to 1PM to purchase  products from our slate of farms, artisans and specialty food producers.  If you miss the first Saturday or your products didn’t last all month, use the By Order Only Market on Saturday, Feb 17, to place an order in advance and then just pick up your order between 9 AM and Noon.  The online Danbury Winter Market page at harvesttomarket.com can be used to order products for both markets.  
On Feb 3, celebrate National Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast day at the market by “Yes, Eating Ice Cream for Breakfast:.  Not adventurous?  Our regular breakfast sandwich and lunch will also be available.  Both floors of the grange hall are filled with local producers including Warner River Produce from Webster.  Their offerings which includes  kale, salad greens, garlic, root crops and mushrooms connects us to the past growing season and makes us think Spring.    
On Feb 17, If fresh vegetables, bakery items, meats and eggs, all items available from the Order only Market aren’t on your grocery list, still plan to drop by the hall  from 10 AM to Noon just  to check out  the Thrifty Yankee Ragbag. There, you will find a collection of DIY demonstrations and hints that showcase our Yankee ingenuity and thriftiness.  Bring your tools to be sharpened on a grindstone by Mike Braley , owner of Wild Meadow Farms.  Have refreshments made from a master mix.  Learn what good things you can do with coconut oil and baking soda or get a jar of sprouts to grow.  There is even room for you if you have an idea you’d like to share.  Contact the grange at blazingstargrange71@nullgmail.com or call Donna at 768-5579.  The farmers market runs every first Saturday and the pickup market every third Saturday through April at the Blazing Star Grange Hall, 15 North Road in Danbury.  For details on all grange events, visit blazingstargrange.org.
