Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum Offers Activities for Maple Sugar Day

March 25, from 10 AM to 3 PM

Press Release

WARNER, NH:  The Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum announces traditional Native heritage activities for Maple Sugar Day on Sunday, March 25, 2018.  Join us as we celebrate the maple syrup season!

In what has quickly become a popular annual event, The Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum will once again host an activity-filled day with a wide variety of offerings for the whole family. As in past years, we will provide complimentary tastings of squash with maple syrup and a sampling of acorn griddle cakes.  You will sample the rare treat of “sugar on snow,” participate in a live demonstration of how the Indians made maple sugar and learn how to boil sap in the traditional Native way. Staff will demonstrate how to burn a dugout canoe and we will show you the customary method of burning bowls. If you have never tried snowshoeing, now is the time!  We will provide the snowshoes courtesy of the Simonds School. Our museum will be open all day and you will have a chance to visit our museum store. While you are in town, be sure to visit the wide variety of offered events and activities to be found all over downtown Warner and up Kearsarge Mountain.

Admission for the maple sugaring activities is free.  Admission to the museum will be $5 per person.

Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum was founded in 1990 by Charles “Bud” and Nancy Thompson as an educational and cultural center to connect visitors with Native American culture, past and present, and to encourage respect for our environment.  The Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum seeks to challenge all of us to improve the quality of our lives and our world.  The museum is open daily May 1 – October 31, Monday – Saturday 10 to 5 PM, Sunday noon to 5 PM and is located at 18 Highlawn Road in Warner, New Hampshire.
