“All Things Wild and Wonderful” in Sunapee on April 5

Press release

Center for the Arts (CFA) announces its April First Friday event for Friday, April 5, from 5 to 7 PM at The Knowlton House in Sunapee Harbor.

The theme for this evening is All Things Wild and Wonderful.

This evening’s program will open with a reading of The Swan by Mary Oliver, followed by Katelyn Croft’s harp rendition of Saint-Saens’ The Swan. Later in the program there will be a reading of Dianalee Verlie’s Clair de Lune followed by Katelyn Croft playing Debussy’s Clair de Lune.

The keynote speaker is Dave Anderson, who is the Director of Education and Volunteer Services for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. The title of his photo-illustrated presentation is How our incredible surroundings improve our mental/physical health and our quality of life in New Hampshire.

Dave designs and delivers education programs such as field trips that teach forest and wildlife ecology as well as forest stewardship and land conservation. He writes a monthly column, Forest Journal, for the New Hampshire Sunday News and a quarterly column for the Society’s Forest Notes. Dave also hosts a bi-monthly program, Something Wild, for New Hampshire Public Radio. Dave lives in South Sutton on his 40-acre certified Tree Farm.

Springing into Poetry

The winners of the second annual Springing into Poetry contest sponsored by CFA’s Literary Arts Guild will be honored at this event. Each applicant submitted an original poem with the theme All Things Wild and Wonderful. Each winner is invited to read their poem at this event.

There will be four winners in the adult category, two high school winners, two middle school winners, and two elementary school winners. Each winner receives a certificate and, thanks to a grant from the Frank M. Barnard Foundation, each will receive a printed copy of the poems. Patricia Fargnoli, former Poet Laureate of New Hampshire, is the judge for the poetry contest. CFA’s celebration of April as Poetry Month is part of a national celebration.

First Fridays

On the first Friday of each month, the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts hosts a series of free arts programs for the community, including gallery openings and receptions, classical and folk music nights, literary and poetry nights, and theater nights. Working with their business partners in the community, CFA continues to showcase local and regional talent in the Lake Sunapee area for the benefit of artists, performers, residents, and visitors in our beautiful region.

The Center for the Arts is a non-profit volunteer organization which welcomes your participation. If you would like to volunteer, perform, become a member, or sponsor a program, please contact us at 526-4444. For more information, please visit CenterForTheArtsNH.org.
