Chauncey Rosman Fenton, Jr., July 31, 2018

Chauncey Rosman Fenton, Jr., 90, of East Dennis, MA, and Acton, MA, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 31, after a two year battle with cancer. He was born January 12, 1928, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and moved to Acton, MA, when he was seven years old. He was a graduate of Acton High School and was hired as the second fulltime officer of the Acton Police Department in 1951. He was appointed Acton’s Chief of Police in 1976 and retired from the department in 1983 after 32 years of service. Upon his retirement, he and his wife Rae moved to East Dennis, and he spent most of his time building homes on Cape Cod with his friend. He also enjoyed spending his free time at the family cottage on Highland Lake in East Andover, NH, where he especially loved sitting on his deck with his dog by his side looking over the lake and enjoying his scotch. Chauncey was predeceased by his parents Chauncey Fenton, Sr., and Esther (Wheelock) Fenton, his brother James Fenton, daughter in law Carol Fenton, son in law Frank McSweeney, and granddaughters Crystal Fenton Emond and Christy Fenton Smith. He will be sadly missed by his devoted and loving wife Rae Fenton, his twelve children, Linda Allen and her husband Brian of New Smyrna Beach, FL; James Fenton of Acton, MA; Dennis Fenton and his wife Nancy of La Mesa, CA; David Fenton and his wife Carol of Westport, WA; Steve Janson and his wife Kim of Williston, VT; Kathy Schad and her husband Steve of Harvard, MA; Judy Fenton of Maynard, MA; Rick Janson and his wife Julie of Merrimack, NH; Paul Janson and his wife Nancy of Avon, CT; Dee Leeber and her husband Jim of Westford, MA; Donna Cisek and her husband Joe of Maynard, MA; Barbara McSweeney of Marlborough, MA; as well as his 32 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Chauncey was proudly affiliated with the Massachusetts Police Academy, Babson College, Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, and the Acton Police Department. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Philip Wade and his staff at the Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center; and to the caring staff of the Visiting Nurses Association Hospice Care of Cape Cod. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dennis Council on Aging/Senior Center, Attention Brenda Vazquez, Director, 1045 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660.
