Proctor Students and Special Olympians will participate side by side in a fun day of competition at Carr Field on October 6. Some participants from last year’s event are pictured above.

Each fall, Proctor Academy students and faculty join forces with Special Olympics New Hampshire to host a fun day on Carr Field. Last year, a new format to the event afforded an opportunity for Special Olympians to compete alongside Proctor’s students in a series of games. On October 6, Proctor will once again team up with Special Olympics New Hampshire to host a similar event. Proctor’s Gregor Makechnie ‘90, who coached Team New Hampshire to a bronze medal in basketball at this summer’s Special Olympics in Seattle and is organizing the event alongside SONH, anticipates more than 60 Special Olympians will be in attendance for the event.

Formatted as a “mini-Olympics” with students, faculty, staff and Special Olympians divided into six teams that will compete in soccer, bocce, corn hole, three legged races, and a dance off, the day will have no shortage of excitement and bonding opportunities. Each team will decide on a name, create a banner, and develop a cheer for the opening ceremonies. Throughout the year, Proctor organizes Community Days connected to the school’s four core values of honesty, compassion, respect, and responsibility. This Special Olympics Fun Day affords an opportunity to build relationships outside of the immediate Proctor community and to exemplify compassion.

Following a morning of competition, fun, and relationship-building, visiting Special Olympians will join the Proctor community for lunch in the Cannon Dining Commons. To learn more about Proctor’s partnership with Special Olympics New Hampshire, email communications@nullproctoracademy.org.
