The Book Club is still going strong, with dedicated readers enjoying a mix of serious and
sometimes darkly humorous selections. We meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7
PM at the Bachelder Library on Chase Hill Rd in East Andover. Serious discussions and somber
reflections followed the reading of “The Bean Trees,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and “Inside
the O’Briens.” On the lighter side, “That Old Ace in the Hole” by Annie Proulx and Richard
Russo’s classic, “Nobody’s Fool,” kept some readers in stitches.

Coming up for the February meeting on the 27th is Michael Chabon’s “Moonglow.” It’s a novel,
autobiography, and memoir rolled into one as he recounts the storied life of his grandfather,
who spilled his memories to Chabon during the man’s final week of life. Look up the book on
Amazon for a full description. Prepare yourself to journey back into the 20th century of the
space program, espionage and Congressional hearings, WWII, and a certain Florida retirement
village-all through the grandfather’s morphine-addled and slightly mad perspectives.

Just so you know what’s ahead: in March, we chose “The Feather Thief,” by Kirk Wallace
Johnson; in April, it’s Trevor Noah’s “Born a Crime;” and for May we have “Where You’ll Find
Me,” by Ty Gagne. Get ready for June-we’ll be reading Kenneth Roberts’ 400 page masterpiece
about the march to Quebec, “Arundel.” You just can’t get historical fiction much better than that!
