Kearsarge Community Band on the New London Town Green

Friday, July 5 at 6:30 PM

Press release

The community is invited to the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts “First Fridays” program on July 5, beginning at 6:30 PM at the Mary Haddad Bandstand on the New London Town Green. All Center for the Arts Events are free and open to the public.

This concert is the opening event on the New London Town Green during this July 4th celebration! On Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, July 7, from 10 AM to 4 PM, the Center for the Arts will host its second annual “Arts on the Green,” a juried Fine Arts & Crafts Show with more than 30 artists and craftsmen participating.

The Kearsarge Community Band is a mainstay for the New London Community; young and old alike bring their blankets and folding chairs to the concerts “on the Green.” The band’s director, Aarne Vesilind, who retired to New London in 2006, says that “Making good music is just for the fun of it!” All who have attended previous Kearsarge Community Concerts would agree. They often become a hand clapping audience sing-along event! So, circle your calendar now and plan to attend their July 5 concert.

The Kearsarge Community Band performs a broad repertoire of music including Sousa and concert marches, show tunes, classical transcriptions, big band swing music, traditional band music, and contemporary compositions.

All First Fridays are free and open to the public. On the first Friday of each month, the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts hosts a series of free arts programs for the community, including Gallery Openings and Receptions, Classical & Folk Music Nights, Literary & Poetry Nights, as well as Theater Night. Working with their business partners in the community, CFA continues to showcase local and regional talent in the lake Sunapee area for the benefit of the artists, performers, residents, and visitors to our beautiful region.

The Center for the Arts is a volunteer organization which welcomes your participation.
