Andover Service Club Begins 54th Year Of Service

By Mary Ofenloch

Andover Service Club President

On September 12, the Andover Service Club (ASC) members met at Ragged Mountain Fish and Game Club, beginning their 54th year of serving the community. In attendance was the new Board of Trustees; about 30 members; the guest speaker, author Betsy Woodman; and guests from the local book club. The business meeting included reports from the secretary, treasurer, scholarship, membership, and fundraising chairs.

It was reported, and disappointment was noted, at news of the cancellation of the Andover Pumpkin Festival. Last year, this event was well received by families who participated in the games and purchased many items from the non-profit organizations, including ASC, who donated the profits of that day to the Andover Food Pantry. The ASC donated $502 from the sales of “Everything Pumpkin.” Hopefully, next year we may see the return of this event.

Betsy Woodman spoke to the club of her childhood in India. After her presentation, Betsy signed copies of her latest book, Jana Bibi’s Excellent Fortunes, the first of a three-part series featuring Jana Bibi, a Scottish woman turned expatriate in India.

Delicious desserts, coffee, and cold juices were served at the conclusion of the meeting.

The ASC invites ladies young and young at heart to join us as members. You will make new friends and enjoy social events while working to serve your community. You need not be an Andover resident, as some members also reside in Wilmot, New London, Bristol, Franklin, Concord, New Hampton, Danbury, Hill, and Springfield.

Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month from September through June. Please contact Mary Ofenloch, President, at MaryO.ASClub@nulllive.com or Eileen Mackey, Membership Chair at Mackey775@nulltds.net if you would like to attend a meeting.

ASC needs you!
