Hailing from “Music City” (Nashville, Tennessee, that is), singer-songwriter Annalise Emerick will receive top billing at the Friday, April 20, Andover Coffeehouse concert beginning at 7 p.m. in the Highland Lake Grange Hall at 7 Chase Hill Road in East Andover.
Billed as a “twenty-something, singer-songwriter who has been on the road virtually non-stop for six years,” Emerick's visit to East Andover is part of an extended April tour encompassing eight concerts in six northeastern states. The Andover concert is her sole appearance in New Hampshire.
According to her bio, ” “Choosing to leave behind any semblance of a normal life for the day-to-day of a traveling independent musician was always a no-brainer for the Nashville spitfire. …Emerick has toured extensively all over the US, playing 150+ shows every year. ” Her work has been described as “blending folk music with pop sensibilities as she crafts melodies as pretty as her name.” Read (and hear) more at annaliseemerick.com.
Also appearing onstage will be up to a dozen open-microphone performers, whose contributions in previous months have ranged from the spoken word to show-business, jazz, folk, bluegrass, and country-and-western tunes.
Sponsor for the April event is the Ragged Mountain Fish & Game Club. Sponsor donations defray room-rental costs and, along with pass-the-hat audience donations, enable the Coffeehouse to offer performances at no charge.
Doors to the Grange Hall open at 6 p.m. for food purchases offered by the Andover Congregational Church, and for open-mic sign-ins on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Coming up: The May 18 “Third Friday” headliner will be Alex Smith, another Music City resident with additional roots in Lafayette, La., and the Adirondacks of New York state. According to one reviewer, “He builds songs from a blend of traditional folk harmony and strikingly modern lyrics, confronting today's most pressing issues with grace while paying homage to the masters who came before him.” Details at alexsmithmusic.net.
Sponsor of the May concert is Tilton Medical Associates. Future sponsors have not yet been identified. If your organization or business would like to support a concert, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
A photographic record of past Coffeehouse performers, both headliners and open-mic participants, is shown on the Coffeehouse website at andovercoffeehouse.org, and on the Facebook page “Andover Community Coffeehouse.”
Video recordings of past programs are shown on a number of community-access channels across the state and are available for viewing anytime on Andover's town website at www.andover.nh.us/ by clicking on “Town Information” and then “Video Archive.” The videos are produced by volunteers at Andover Community Cable.
The coffeehouse is located at the intersection of Route 11 and Chase Hill Road in East Andover. The Andover Community Coffeehouse operates under the umbrella of the Andover Community Association (ACA).
