“Childbirth Boot Camp” Training for Emergency Medical Professionals a Success

Over 75 members of multiple municipalities, healthcare organizations, and other emergency medical professionals throughout the state took part in a special training of procedures and protocols for expectant mothers who may need to be transported due to complications or an unexpected home birth.

LACONIA, NH – Held earlier this month at Lakes Region General Hospital, 78 emergency medical professionals gathered for a special training of procedures and protocols for expectant mothers who need to be transported from one facility to another due to complications or an unexpected home birth.
Coordinated by John Prickett, RN, EMS & Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for LRGHealthcare, the morning included childbirth simulations using the New Hampshire Bureau of EMS’s simulation vehicle, an OB manikin that talks and actually delivers a baby, and a premature infant manikin to practice on courtesy of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC).

A special thank you to Victoria Flanagan, RN and Dr. Ringer from DHMC, the New Hampshire Bureau of EMS, Craig Clough, Concord Hospital EMS Coordinator, Littleton Hospital for assistance in the scenarios and the following EMS units who attended:  Laconia Fire, Franklin Fire, Gilford Fire, Sanbornton Fire, Moultonborough Fire, Stewarts Ambulance, New Hampton Fire, Bristol Fire, LRGH EMS Ambulance Service, Belmont Fire, Tilton/Northfield Fire, Center Harbor Fire, Best Care Ambulance, and the LRGHealthcare Emergency Services Department.
