Through the Reading Glasses July 2018

By Janet Moore, Library Trustee

Welcome to the most exciting month of the year for the Andover Libraries! You’ve already been to the kick-off of the Summer Reading Program with the event at the Stone Chapel-Amy Makecknie presenting her debut children’s book, “The Unforgettable Guinevere St. Clair.”
Now come the Book Sales: July 3, from 4-7 for Andover residents and July 4, from 7:30 AM-2 PM. That will be followed by the annual Fairy House construction event on July 14 at 10 AM at the Andover Library. Come one, come all, seriously, and we’ll all build homes for the little people!
On July 11 at 6:30 PM, Joanie Leeds and the Night Lights will rock and roll at the Andover Library. The reading program continues with events scheduled for July 28 and August 11.
Support your libraries! Have fun with your children! Rock out! Give the little people new homes!
Oh yes, one book recommendation for the kids this summer: Lynne Rae Perkins, a Newbery medalist has just published “Secret Sisters of the Salty Sea,” another extraordinary look at ordinary life. Two sisters on a family vacation at the beach become involved with a peregrine falcon rescue and rehabilitation and learn what all children must: growing up is hard to do.
