Around the World with the Beacon: Bhutan

Charlie Darling visits a handmade paper factory

Charlie Darling visited the remote Himalayan country of Bhutan in early January. Besides visiting dozens of temples, monasteries, and shrines and trekking for four days at altitudes up to about 10,000 feet, he visited a small factory that makes paper by hand. Tschering Dorji demonstrated the process, then posed with Charlie and the Beacon. Tschering approved of the quality of the paper on which the Beacon is printed.
