October 6, 1966:  Andover News and Notes 

George Martin is attending a Postal Convention in Puerto Rico. Elizabeth Dodge who is in the Barselle Nursing Home in Elkins celebrated her 90th birthday on September 26. She received many cards, gifts, and three birthdäy cakes. Relatives and friends visited from Massachusetts, New London, Franklin, and Andover. People called for three days to help her celebrate. Congratulations, with many more to enjoy.

Mr. and Mrs. Rälph Webb of Charlestown, West Virginia called on Mrs. Elaine Eastman on Sunday. They were on a tour through Canada and stopped by to visit.

Miss Nancy Eichell is now a student at Villa Augustine Academy in Goffstown, New Hampshire.

Mr. and Mrs. Victor E. Phelps spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Ira Stickney in Derry.

Recent guests at the house of Mrs. Eliza Buzzell were Mrs. Arthur Rowell, Mrs. Gibson, Eleanor Bartlett of Chichester and Mr. and Mrs. Karl (Helen Libby) Buttrick of Chichester.

The third adult class on Civil Defense is being held on this Thursday evening at 8 PM in the Andover Town Library. Everyone is welcome.

Andover Lions Club October 10. Andover Fire Department  October 6. Blackwater Grange, October 13. Andover Service Club will hold guest night on October 12, at 6:30 PM at Proctor Chapel. A catered dinner will be served.

Deaths and Funerals:

Gerald Patrick Smith, 71, passed away at the Veterans Hospitäl in White River Junction, Vermontfte after a long illness. Members of the family include his wife, Mrs. Emelie Smith: two sisters Nora Eville, Nutley, New Jersey. And Mrs. Ella Donovan, Plymouth, Massachusetts, two brothers, Daniel Smith, Kingston, New Hampshire and Phillip Smith, Johnstown, Vernont.

East Andover:   Travels & Visits.

Mrs. Sarah Temple is in Franklin Hospital. We wish her well.

Mr. Edith Leonard and family of Montpelier, Vermont a spent the weekend with her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Young.

Francis Carney and Albert Dalphond are home from the hospital and are coming along fine.

Miss Carleen Longfellow and Miss Beverly Miller entered the Empire Beauty Academy in Laconia.

Pvt. James W. Delaney left Friday for Camp Lajeune, North Carolina after spending a furlough with his mother Mrs. Alice Delaney. James will be there for 8 weeks of schooling.

Mrs. Dorothy Kimball, Miss Marion Steuerwald, Mrs. Georgia Dodge, Mrs. Annah Tucker and Mrs. Geräld Walker attended the Women’s Fellowship Field Day meeting held at Pembroke Conference Center on September 27.

October 13, 1966 : Andover

A surprise stork shower was held at the home of Mrs. Beulah Moses in honor of Mrs. Mary Addison on October 3. Hostesses were Mrs. Moses and Mrs. Roy Downs.

Mrs. Ray Doliber and Mrs. Walter Westlake of Narregansett, Rhode Island recently called on Mrs. Eliza Buzzell.

Mrs. L. Francis Kennedy attended the New Hampshire Central District Library meeting on Thursday in Laconia. She also attended as a delegate to the New Hampshire Hospital Association held in Nashua, representing New London Hospital.

Congratulations go to Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Betty Shanpney) Adams who were married on October 8, in Proctor chapel.

Andover P.T.O., will hold its second meeting of the year. Guest speaker will be Herman ““Dutch”“ Krueger whose topic will concern itself with the ‘‘‘Dollars for Scholars’’’ fund. The P.T.O. donates $200.00 yearly to worthy students.

Mr. Martin Feurestein attended the New England Reading Association Convention in Boston to learn newer reading techniques.

Mrs. Marie Rising, first grade teacher, is attending an Extension course on ‘‘Teaching of Social Study’’.

East Andover: Engagements and Weddings

Mr. and Mrs. Roger LeBlanc of Ward Hill Road, announce the engagement of their daughter, Suzanne Marie LeBlanc, to Russell Hersey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hersey of East Andover.

Miss Nancy Joan Gauthier, daughter of Mrs. Hayden Thurber, and Ronald W. Durgin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Durgin were united in marriage September 24, 1966 at Saint Paul’s Church.

October 20, 1966: Andover

The Andover Library received a gift of clippings of town items in the Journal Transcripts covering 20 years of news from Mrs. Elaine Eastman. She pressed the clipping in one year increments for each book and donated 20 books. Congratulations for twenty years of service to the Journal Transcript.

Mrs. Grace Fenton has returned home from Springfield, Massachusetts where she has been visiting her daughter, Mildred Fenton.

The Andover Service Club met in Proctor Chapel on October 12, for guest night. Around 40 attended the chicken dinner held at 6:30 PM, followed by Mrs. L. Francis Kennedy showing and talking on ‘‘Gardens and Parks of Northern Europe’’ which was enjoyed by äll.

Mrs. Lloyd Dunlop returned home on Sunday from her work at Lost River Reservation where she had been for five months.

Mrs. Doris Bardsley, mother of selectman Willian Bardsley, is in Sweden for eight months. She left Friday, October 7, by plane and will return home by boat in May.

Death Notices:

Much sympathy goes to the Frank M. Lull families. Mr. Lull 94, passed away at his home in Potter Place on October 15. He held the post cane for being the oldest man in town. Services from the Chadwick Funeral Home in New London on Tuesday. Burial will be in Proctor Cemetery, Andover.

Much sympathy goes to Mr. and Mrs. Tousignant for the recent death of Mrs. Tousignant’s brother.

East Andover:

Miss Barbara Jewett of Boston, Mass.achusetts and Miss Sharon Jewett of Concord spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Jewett.

A bull moose was seen in Flaghole, East Andover and Andover Plains on Columbus Day, October 12. Many people took pictures of it in Henry Fagon’s field and Mr. Ralph Chaffee took pictures of the moose in his garden.

East Andover is very proud to receive, as a fee gift,a Cadillac ambulance from the town of Riverdale, New Jersey’s Rescue Squad.

96 cancer dressings were made at the home of Mrs. John Forsberg instead of Mrs. Albert Hoyt due to illness. There were six ladies of Ladies Aid present to this work meeting.

October 27, 1966:   Andover

Hopkins Pond was reclaimed by the Fish and Game Department on Thursday, October 20.

Firemen were called out at 4 AM Sunday October 23 to a fire at Hames Shop. The shop was a total loss. This shop was another one of our old, old buildings in town.

Mr. and Mrs. Amos Johnson and family of Potter Place spent the weekend with her brother, Mr.and Mrs. William Tibbitts of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Bläke is holding a speaking Choir concert for grades 1-2 on Fridäy October 28.

A special class is doing cooking. The boys in Mr. Flints ‘class are working on their projects and in their book. They are also doing woodworking.

Andover Service Club held a ẃork day at the home of Mrs. Willard Wyeth on Ocober 19. Mrs. Cordella Graves furnished the dessert. Another work day is to held on October 26 at the home of Mrs. Päul Fenton with Mr. Howard George furnishing dessert

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. John Maguire on their Silver Wedding anniversary, and also Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Downs of Potter Place on their 43rd Wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Smith on October 28.

 Deaths and Notices:

Mrs. Florence L. Gardner, 67, a resident of East Andover for eight months, passed away at her home early Wednesday morning, October 26. Service will be at H. L. Young and Co. Memorial Home October 28, at 2 PM. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, East Andover.
