The Music of Pink Floyd Rocks the Flying Monkey

Gaelic Storm of Titanic fame on March 23

Press release

At 7:30 PM on Friday, March 22, The Flying Monkey Performance Center in Plymouth is excited to welcome back The Machine Performs Pink Floyd. Rolling Stone says, “they duplicate the sound and hits of Pink Floyd with chilling accuracy.” This time they are performing their full electric show complete with interstellar laser and light show.

Gaelic Storm, a dynamic, lively, Irish folk-pop band, will get toes tapping at the Monkey on Saturday, March 23. Since their big-screen debut 10 years ago, this one-time pub band’s fan base has been steadily multiplying, turning them into one of the premier touring acts in the Celtic/World genre. Tickets for The Machine start at $26, and Gaelic Storm start at $29.

New York-based band The Machine focuses on making every show an authentic Floydian experience for their fans. Known for performing a diverse mix of The Floyd’s extensive 16-album repertoire (complete with faithful renditions of popular hits as well as obscure gems), The Machine’s stellar musicianship, dramatic lighting and video, and their passionate delivery sets them above and beyond the rest.

In the classic tradition, The Machine explores collective improvisation paralleling and even rivaling that of an early 1970s Pink Floyd mentality. Their use of expanded theatrical elements and elaborate stage displays continues in the spirit of the later Floyd lineups of the 1980s.

More than a decade has passed since Gaelic Storm appeared in the blockbuster movie Titanic as the lively steerage-class band, but Gaelic Storm has continued to thrive. Officially minted on St. Patrick’s Day in 1996, the former main attraction at O’Brien’s Pub in Santa Monica, California, is now one of the top acts in the Celtic/World music arena. Combining both classic originals and fresh new arrangements of Celtic music with a unique blend of world rhythms, the members of Gaelic Storm infuse the show with their own spunky Irish wit for a wildly entertaining experience.

With two national tours spent headlining both the largest Celtic festivals in the country and mainstream music events, plus an expansion of their tour to the National Celtic Festival outside of Melbourne, Australia, Gaelic Storm has swept the Celtic music world with their exciting brand of energetic musicianship.

As one of their members says: “Our audiences can’t help noticing how much fun we’re really having. The very heart and soul of traditional Irish folk music is celebrating life.”
