Songs of Old New Hampshire Coming to Wilmot

Press release

The program Songs of Old New Hampshire, presented by the Wilmot Historical Society (WHS) and sponsored by the New Hampshire Humanities Council, will take place at 2 PM on Sunday, May 5 in the Wilmot Town Hall in Wilmot Center. It is free and open to the public.

Drawing heavily on the repertoire of traditional singer Lena Bourne Fish (1873-1945), Jeff Warner of Portsmouth will offer songs and stories that tell us about where we came from and what affected us along the way. The ballads, love songs and comic pieces Jeff will introduce shed light on daily life before the modern entertainments of movies and musical recordings. They are about lumber camps, sailing ships, textile mills, and the war between the sexes.

Rich in local history and a sense of place, these songs bring us the latest news from the distant past. Jeff is among the nation’s foremost performer/interpreters of traditional music. Don’t miss this opportunity to acquire a deeper appreciation for the place we call home.

The Curiosity Shop, the fundraising arm of the Wilmot Historical Society, will be selling local history publications and Donald Hall DVDs. Refreshments will be served following the program.

The Wilmot Town Hall is located next to the Wilmot Public Library on North Wilmot Road just off Route 4A in Wilmot Center.
