Music on the Wilmot Bandstand will present six, free summer concerts on Saturdays starting July 14. All concerts start at 6 p.m. at the town green at the intersection of Kearsarge Valley and Village roads in Wilmot Flat., The final concert of the season will be on Aug. 18.
“Music on the Bandstand is part of the wonderful summer experience in Wilmot,” said Ed Weaver, a founding member of the Bandstand Committee. Most of the bands are based in the Lake Sunapee/Kearsarge region.
Established in fall of 2001, the Bandstand Committee garnered donations and with the expertise and donated time of many local contractors, the group built the bandstand on the Wilmot Town Green. The first concerts were presented in 2003. Music on the Wilmot Bandstand has evolved into a joint effort of the Town of Wilmot, the Bandstand Committee and the Wilmot Community Association (WCA),
“This is a terrific example of collaboration between the town and the WCA,” said Susan Nye, administrator of the WCA.
Concerts are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Each week a different not-for-profit organization prepares and sells a delicious, homemade supper. Free popcorn, underwritten by a donation from Coldwell Banker Lifestyles Real Estate, is available during the concerts. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on town-owned properties, including the town green. In case of rain, the concerts move to the Wilmot Town Hall, 9 North Wilmot Road, just off Route 4A in Wilmot Center.
The bands and the not-for-profit groups that will sell food during the concerts are:
The Bel Airs, a popular doo wop group, will start the season on July 14. The Wilmot Ladies Aid Society will cook hot dogs and homemade sides including coleslaw, pasta salad and baked beans. Cookies and lemonade will round out the offerings.
On July 21 Nick’s Other Band will play classic rock and roll. The WCA will serve delicious seafood chowder, hot dogs, homemade pie and more.
Canyon Run will play a selection of folk, country and Americana on July 28. As always, the Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department will serve a special supper.
On Aug. 4 Mach Turtle will play rock and roll. The Friends of the Wilmot Public Library will serve a delicious meal accompanied by dessert and beverages.
Diamond Special will be on stage Aug. 11. They will play a selection of rock, blues and country music. The First Congregational Church of Wilmot, UCC, will serve up pulled pork on a bun, hot dogs, chips, cole slaw, cookies and iced tea or lemonade.
Closing out the season on Aug. 18 will be The Moores. The Wilmot-based group will play rock and roll. The Wilmot Historical Society will be serving a yummy meal that evening.
Also mark your calendars for the town-wide garage sale set for Aug. 25. The deadline to be on the map is noon Thursday, Aug. 23. Proceeds from the sale of garage sale maps support the Bandstand.
