The sixth graders shared the meaning behind the poem In Flander’s Fields and Paige Makechnie recited it. Then several students shared original poetry they wrote inspired by the sacrifice and service of our veterans.
Here is one of the original pieces of poetry:
Thank you veterans dead and alive.
We honor you with joy and pride.
Peace to you, free at last.
We honor the veterans of present and past.
Mighty fierce big and strong,
We know you’ve waited to come home so long.
Coming home always feels so nice,
Especially without guns, fighting, tanks, and knives.
Thanks to you we have meals and a bed,
We thank you all alive and dead.
