New England Institute of Technology Offers Robotics Certifications and Preparation for FAA Drone Licenses

Press Release

East Greenwich, RI – Dr. Douglas H. Sherman, Senior Vice President and Provost at New England Institute of Technology (NEIT), announced that the university is offering FANUC certifications to students enrolled in NEIT’s Mechanical Engineering Technology and Electronics, Robotics and Drone Technology programs. The FANUC America Corporation, headquartered in Rochester Hills, Michigan, is the leading supplier of robots, CNC systems and factory automation.  Certification represents proficiency in the operation and programming of FANUC robots which are used worldwide in a wide range of industries. This certification will set NEIT graduates apart when seeking employment in the fields of manufacturing, engineering, electronics and robotics to name a few.

In addition, New England Tech’s Electronics, Robotics and Drones Technology program offers students the opportunity to prepare for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Section 107 Commercial Small Unmanned Aerial System (SUAS) exam for pilot certification. Students explore the commercial use and training required to become commercial drone/unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) pilots using simulators as well as flying actual drones. Students who meet FAA standards are eligible to sit for the FAA Section 107 drone pilot certification exam. Recently, there was a 100% pass rate for those NEIT students who took the federal exam and are now FAA certified remote pilots in command of a drone/UAV.

Dr. Sherman stated, “Through experiential learning, our students are exposed to the high-tech skills that today’s employers are seeking. Our programs are enhanced as needed to reflect the dynamic changes in today’s labor market. Our faculty members continue to earn certifications in the newest technologies and pass their expertise on to our students.  New England Tech prides itself in being one of the only universities in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts that offers FANUC certifications as well as prepares their students to become FAA licensed commercial drone pilots.”
