Soccer Registration is Open

By Abby Webster

Whether you are a soccer fan with endless enthusiasm for the sport or a newcomer looking for outdoor fun for your child, the Andover rec soccer program has some great opportunities.  Beginning Tuesday, July 16 at 6 PM players are invited to join in pick-up games on the Howard George field. These summer evenings are a chance for kids to play small sided games with minimal input from adults.

The regular season officially begins Tuesday, September 3 and runs until October 5.  The Fifth-Sixth grade teams participate in and end of the season tournament scheduled for October 12.  All teams are invited to come cheer them on.

Kindergarteners, First, and Second graders, participate in clinics on Saturday mornings.  There is a registration fee of $15 for these age groups which pays for insurance. First and second graders will be divided into teams this year to provide a chance to play small sided games.

Third-Fourth grade and Fifth-Sixth grade teams play in the Merrimack Valley Soccer League.  These age groups have the opportunity to practice with their teams and play one or two games per week.  This league consists of approximately 20 towns and schools. For the league to complete the scheduling, we must turn in our rosters early which leads to our registration deadline of August 1.  Players in this age group pay a registration fee of $40 which pays for insurance, referees and field lining. The Merrimack Valley website, mvsl.org, has a lot of helpful information if you are curious about specific rules or schedules.  Feel free to contact Abby Webster at absweb@nullyahoo.com with any questions or concerns. We are also always looking for volunteers.
