AVA Gallery and Art Center, located at 11 Bank Street in Lebanon, New Hampshire, is pleased to present the 2019 Summer Juried Exhibition. The exhibition will be on display from July 12 through August 21, 2019 and is made possible by generous support from Ledyard National Bank.
The works on display were among 189 entries submitted by 108 artists from 57 communities throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. Juror Alan Chong – Director and CEO of the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire – selected 89 works by 70 artists for this exhibition. Artists were challenged to reexamine the power and place of art in our changing world. What messages will viewers glean from their artwork 200 years from now? The themes presented in this body of work are timely and poignant, and utilize synthetic and hand-made papers, natural fibers, encaustics, photographic pigment, ink, oil, acrylic, watercolor, egg tempera, pencil, charcoal, pastel, crayon, wood, found objects, clay, metal, concrete, shoe soles, and plants.
The 2019 Summer Juried Exhibition is a unique opportunity to see artwork from a variety of artists both familiar and new to AVA visitors. The exhibition is free and open to the public during gallery hours (Tuesday – Saturday, 11 to 5 PM; Thursday, 11 to 7 PM or by appointment.)
Occurring simultaneously, an opening reception for new sculptures by six artists will be featured in Kira’s Garden, a sculpture garden dedicated to the memory of Kira Fournier Schore (1950-2002). Sabrina Fadial, Sande French-Stockwell, Lela Jaacks, Sue Katz, Stefania Urist, and John Matusz will have sculptures on display until June 2020.
