Budget Committee Looking to Fill Two Vacancies

By Arch Weathers, Budget Committee Member

The Andover Budget Committee consists of 6 individuals elected by ballot at Town Meeting to serve staggered three-year terms. Additionally, one member each from the Board of Selectmen and the School Board serves in an ex-officio capacity.

The town of Andover follows the traditional Town Meeting format, and as an elected municipal functionary the Budget Committee’s sole purpose is to recommend a budget to the legislative body at the town meeting in March.  It is also empowered to appoint committee members as a result of vacancies that may occur during the calendar year.

Currently we are seeking to fill two vacancies and would like to hear from any Andover resident interested in being an integral part of the town budget process. The appointees will serve out the remainder of the term until the 2020 Town Meeting, at which time any individual meeting the residency requirements may file for the ensuing three year term(s). The appointee(s) will be expected to attend all Committee meetings and Public Hearings as well as Town Meeting. The Committee meets on selected Wednesday evenings at 7 PM at the Town office building from November through mid February.

Any interested full-time resident should contact the Chair, Arch Weathers, either by email (pilot2949@nullgmail.com), or by phone at 743-8984. We look forward to hearing from you!
