Arts and Crafts Thriving at the Hub

Press Release

Art and crafts are alive and well at the Andover Community Hub.  Take a look:

An “Art Salon at the Hub” will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, 6-7:30 PM, the first in what is hoped will be a monthly opportunity for beginning and professional artists to share their work with one another for honest feedback and support.  The gathering, organized by Andover artist Molly Leith, is intended to foster community, creativity and connections; participants are asked to bring something they’re working on to the gathering. All are welcome; the Salon is free, with a suggested donation of $5 to benefit The Hub.  For more information, contact Leith at mollyleith@nullme.com or 510-847-6248. Leith also taught a beginning art class at the Hub last summer that encouraged eleven participants to pursue their art, with another series planned for the winter.

She’s also led several “Paint & Sip” evenings to give those who’ve perhaps never thought of themselves as having an artistic side a chance to try their hand with a paintbrush and canvas in a fun and relaxed environment over refreshments and a glass of wine.  The next “Paint & Sip” will be planned for a Friday in November. For details, contact TheAndoverHub@nullgmail.com.

Several craft groups also call the Hub home and meet there on Thursdays, the UFO* Crafters who meet 10-11:30 AM to work on any *UnFinished Objects, and Needle Felters Etc. who meet 7-9 PM to learn needle felting techniques from leader Nadja Hebert as well as to work on ongoing projects of any kind.  Newcomers are welcome in both groups; those interested can contact Donna Duclos at dcduclos@nullgmail.com for the morning group and Hebert at 735-4084 or nhebert@nulltds.net for the evening group.

The Andover Hub is also looking for artists or craftspeople interested in exhibiting their work for a month or two on the walls of the Hub’s hallway.  Currently, bright artwork created by AE/MS kids adorns the walls of the Hub’s central hallway. Paintings, graphics, photography, fiber arts, etc. by area residents young and old are all welcome as long as they can be easily hung.  Contact TheAndoverHub@nullgmail.com to let us know of your interest in mounting an exhibit.
