Town Clerk’s Office Closed for Two Days in May

Also: Property tax prepayment; dog tags; state park plates

By Joanna Sumner, Town Clerk and Tax Collector

The Town Clerk’s office will be closed on Wednesday, May 22, as both Wanda and I will be attending a training session offered by the state Department of Motor Vehicles. We will also be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day. We will be open as usual on the last Saturday of the month: May 25.

If you still have not licensed your dog, please do so before the end of the month. Late fees will be applied starting in June.

Prepaying Property Taxes

Andover is one of the few communities left in the state that sends tax bills only once a year. This creates an uneven cash flow for the Town and leaves the Town in a position to have to borrow funds until the next bill is sent.

Many of us find that paying a large property tax bill at the end of the year is a difficult burden. To lessen this burden, the Town Clerk’s office does give you the opportunity to make payments in advance of your annual tax bill.

You do not have to be locked into a set amount each month. You can make a payment as often as you like and in any amount that is convenient for you.

Park Plates

Summer is coming, and it is time to think about going to the state parks for swimming and hiking. You can put Park Plates on your vehicle when you re-register or if you want to come in to do a plate change. The plate costs $85 and gives you free access for your car and all its passengers to many of our state parks.
