RP Johnson Celebrates 113 Years with Customer Appreciation Event

Demonstrations, food, and prizes on May 18

Press release

In celebration of the company’s 113-year anniversary and four generations of service to the community, RP Johnson and Son, Inc. announced a Customer Appreciation Day set for May 18 and a community event called “We Build It Forward” that will take place on June 15.

The Customer Appreciation event will be held at RP Johnson and Son in Andover, where the company has provided building materials to the community for more than a century. The “We Build It Forward” event will have volunteers work on projects that will take place throughout area towns, encompassing a variety of private and public building, repair, and community service-related projects.

“My grandfathers were community-focused from the first day of our founding, and this is a great way, especially during these tough economic times, to not only honor their legacy in hardware and building materials, and my father’s, but it’s also a way to bring us all closer as a community—to find creative new ways to appreciate, serve, and build up the cities and towns where we have done business with our friends for more than a century,” said RP Johnson and Son’s fourth-generation president, Steve Johnson.

RP Johnson and Son is known for its innovative drive-thru lumber yard, state-of-the art technology, and open-book management program.

“Paying attention to what our community, employees, and customers need is how we carry out the company’s legacy of caring. But we know we can’t do it alone,” Johnson said. “We need the community to get as many people involved in these very special projects as possible to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors. Everyone can participate, even if it’s in a small way.”

RP Johnson and Son commits many dollars and employee hours to other community causes, including youth programs and scholastic programs—always for organizations that keep dollars in the local community. “Our customers have supported us for generations, and this is our way of giving back to them, as well as to our own employees who live in Andover and Sunapee,” Johnson said.

At the Customer Appreciation Day on May 18 from 7 AM to 5 PM, members of the community are invited to visit the Andover location of RP Johnson and Son, where they can take tours of the drive-thru lumber yard and millwork showcase, see vendor demonstrations, enter to win prizes, kids can work on building a special project, and get free popcorn and balloons for the children. Coffee and donuts will be available in the morning, with hot dogs and soda during lunch time.

During the Customer Appreciation event, members of the community also will be urged to sign up for “We Build It Forward” projects that take place on June 15. On this day, teams of people will disperse into the community to take on projects that may take the shape of fundraisers and yard cleanups, fixing park shelters, or painting an entire house. Members of the community can also sign up for the event online at rpjohnsons.com/webuilditforward and webuilditforward.com. The total list of ideas will be posted on the Web site as it continues to grow.
