Share A Life-Changing Event With Your Fellow Andoverites

Hub compiling "Story of My Life" virtual program

By Larry Chase

Have you lived in Andover for, say, a decade or more?  If yes, have you experienced an event that has changed your life?  If you have a story to share with your fellow Andoverites, The Andover Community Hub may offer an opportunity.

You’re probably familiar with “The Moth Radio Hour,” aired on local NPR stations every Saturday at 4 PM.  For those who aren’t, it features tales of life-changing events, told by the folks who lived through them.

If The Andover Hub can identify a half-dozen or so local folks who have stories to tell (and the courage to tell them), we’ll put together an hour-long “virtual” program called “Story of My Life”  for up to 100 “attendees” to watch on their home computers or hand-held devices. We’ll be using a technology called Zoom, which has become familiar to many in this time of social distancing.

Here’s how you can participate:

** Identify a specific Andover-related experience  that has had a significant impact on your life.

** Between now and September 15, submit a written version of your proposed story, in 1,000 words or less, to TheAndoverHub@nullgmail.com.  Be sure to describe the event and explain its impact on your life.

If there are sufficient submissions,  a panel of local judges will select up to six stories for a “live” Zoom  reading at 6 PM on Saturday, October 17.  Selected readers will be announced in the October Andover Beacon,  and they will participate from their homes or offices.

After the show, viewers will vote via the internet  for their favorite storyteller, who will then receive a gift certificate from a local business.

It’s that simple.  Now write your story and email it to TheAndoverHub@nullgmail.com  by Tuesday, September 15.  All ages and life experiences are welcome.
