The Andover Community Hub has been offering a strength and balance class aimed primarily at those 55 and over for three years, most recently via Zoom while The Hub remains closed. Adults of any age and all levels of fitness, men as well as women, are welcome to join this low-impact exercise class designed to improve bone and muscle strength, balance, circulation, and general health. The class is offered free of charge, uses small hand and ankle weights, and can be done sitting or standing.
The class is led by trained volunteers and is now welcoming new participants to an introductory session to teach the exercises and the correct way to do them. Newcomers will then be welcome to join the ongoing classes held via Zoom every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Interested residents are asked to contact TheAndoverHub@nullgmail.com for the date and time of the introductory session, as well as the Zoom link for that session. Brief instructions on downloading and using Zoom will be provided to any who may not be familiar with this increasingly popular video conference tool.
The Hub is also offering an ongoing “Gentle Flow” yoga class via Zoom which meets Thursday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 AM and focuses on flexibility, core strength, and relaxation. The class is taught by Maris Wofsy of Salisbury, an occupational therapist and personal trainer as well as yoga teacher.
Beginners as well as those with yoga experience are welcome. The fee is $10 a session, payable monthly. To register at any time or for more information, contact Maris.Wofsy@nullgmail.com.
