Rep. Karrick Urges Support for Ratzki’s Bid for County Commissioner

By David Karrick

Mario Ratzki is running to be the Merrimack County Commissioner representing Merrimack District 2.

He’s on your ballot if you reside in Andover, Canterbury, Franklin, Salisbury, and eight other towns. We’ve been friends since we ran successfully in 2012 to represent Andover, Salisbury, and several other towns in the New Hampshire Legislature. We worked on various bills under Mario’s leadership during his two terms in the Legislature.

Mario was instrumental in getting Massachusetts to pay New Hampshire the promised annual restitution to 18 New Hampshire towns for productive and residential properties taken in 1957 for the construction of the flood control dams. Mario Ratzki was the prime sponsor of House Bill 176 asking the Legislature to pay the same 18 towns money owed them under the compact with Massachusetts but diverted by Speaker Bill O’Brien to the New Hampshire General Fund. While in the Legislature Mario founded a Coalition of Legislators from both parties known as CLAD to stop the downshifting of State expenses to our Towns.

Mario and I worked together on Merrimack County budgets, finding funds that didn’t need to be spent. The 2020 annual budget for Merrimack County is $93 million; about half of this budget comes from local property taxes. Mario, as your County Commissioner, will once again study the County budget for ways to reduce your County taxes.

Mario Ratzki will be a visible, active, and effective County Commissioner. Please vote for Mario and other Democrats on November 3. He’s listed on the bottom of the reverse side of your ballot.
