Theresa May (Barry) Bennett – December 29, 2020

Theresa May (Barry) Bennett

Theresa May (Barry) Bennett Journeyed on to heaven on December 29, 2020. She left this world in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family.

Theresa was the cherished wife of Herbert Joseph Bennett for 65 years. In addition to many loving extended family members, Theresa’s immediate family includes her sons, Michael Bennett and his wife Lisa, Kevin Bennett and his wife Patty, her daughters, Karen Lafiosca and her husband Danny, and Laura O’Hagan and her husband Liam. Theresa has eight grandchildren, Katie McCadden and her husband Dave, Kristina Lafiosca, Connor O’Hagan and his wife Julie, Kyle O’Hagan and his wife Kristyna, Erin Hodge and her husband Aaron, Jaime Bennett, Stephen Bennett, and Liam O’Hagan. Her two great-grandchildren and the apples of her eye are Millyrose and Alisdair McCadden. Theresa was the devoted daughter of Mary Barry, whom for many years she lovingly cared for.

Theresa was a resident of Medford, Massachusetts for the past 36 years, and a seasonal resident of East Andover for the past 55 years. She was born on January 10, 1931, grew up and raised her family on Franklin Street in Somerville, Massachusetts. She was a graduate of Somerville High school, class of 1949. Theresa married the love of her life, Herbert (Sonny) Bennett, in 1955, with whom she shared an inspirational marriage, devotion to family, long daily walks, and a love for dancing.

Theresa always maintained her very petite stature that belied her amazing energy and stamina. She had a reputation on Roland Street for always being the first out to shovel after a snowstorm and to get her leaves raked in the fall. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren all share memories with her sledding, ice skating, riding bikes, swimming, and trying to keep up with her on long walks around Highland Lake. They fondly remember the tightest of squeezes when holding her hand, and the loving way she reached out to your face for a kiss. Most memorable of all were her graceful dance moves with her favorite dancing partner, Papa, especially to one of their favorite songs, “Sweet Caroline.”

Theresa leaves a legacy of love, for a lifetime of caring for others. She will be missed and remembered with great love by all those who have been fortunate to share her beautiful life. We send her on her journey with our love and prayers, until we meet again.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. It is the request of Theresa’s family that, in lieu of flowers, donations kindly be sent to the Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice at the following address: 107 Newport Rd., New London, NH 03257.
