Victoria Mishcon, Candidate for Supervisor of the Checklist

6 year term

By Victoria Mishcon

My family has been living in Andover since 1987, thirty-five years already! I’ve had many opportunities to serve my community while raising our two children here. I’ve served on the board of the East Andover Village Preschool, the Andover School Board, and the Andover Select Board. Two years ago I was appointed to finish the term of Supervisor Janet Splan.

Being a Supervisor of the Checklist is a huge responsibility and includes registering new voters and making sure the voter checklist is up to date and correct. On Election Day, the supervisors work with all the other election officials (Moderator, Town Clerk, Ballot Clerks, Select Board) to make sure everyone is able to  exercise their right to vote. I’ve taken advantage of all the training provided by the Secretary of State’s Office and I’ve had great guidance from my fellow supervisors, Doug Phelps and Cindy Benson.

I have learned that there are many checks and balances in the election process – each election official carries out their particular job. No one person has control over the entire process. On Election Day, an official from the Secretary of State’s Office arrives at some point during the day, clipboard in hand, to make sure all procedures are being followed correctly.

I hope voters will elect me for this six-year term, so I can continue to be a part of our election process.
