The election is on Tuesday, November 8, at Andover Elementary/Middle School. The polls will open at 8 AM and will close at 7 PM.

Be sure to vote. Democracy works best when everyone votes.

Do your homework and be an informed voter.  Read the candidate statements in the Beacon.  Check out the sample ballot in the Beacon. (It is also posted at Town Hall and at both post offices.) And research the candidates; most will have a website.

If you cannot make it to the polls that day, you still have time to vote absentee.  However, there is not enough time to vote absentee by mail, but you can do this in one visit to Town Hall before Election Day.  

Please go to Town Hall, ask Lisa Meier, our Town Clerk, for an application for an absentee ballot.  Fill out and submit the application while you are there at Town Hall.  You will then be handed a ballot, which you can fill out there, and pass in it. Please remember that the Town Clerk’s office will be open from 3 to 5 PM on Monday, November 7.

On Election Day, please remember to bring your ID with you.

If you plan to register to vote on Election Day you will be asked to document your age, citizenship, and domicile. You can document your age and your citizenship with your birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers. You can document your domicile with your driver’s license. If you have moved here recently and have an out-of-state license, you will need to document your domicile with a deed, rental agreement, property tax bill, or a utility bill.

Remember that we are in a new district.  We are now District 5, which includes Andover, Danbury, Salisbury, Hill, and Webster.  Because the district is larger, we will have two District 5 representatives.  

The ballot states “State Representatives Merrimack District 5: Vote for not more than 2.”  This means that you have two votes in this race. Please do not throw one of your votes away by only voting for one candidate.

Elections have always run smoothly in Andover. This is due to the work of our Town Clerk, our Select Board, and dozens of volunteers. Please show them the kindness and respect that they deserve.
