Bachelder Library October Newsletter

October is Banned Book Week; check out display

By Priscilla Poulin and Lee Wells

The month of September ended sadly for the Andover Libraries. Gene Poulin, Priscilla’s husband of 55 years, died peacefully on September 23.  Those of us fortunate enough to know him will miss his kindness and his signature smile and wave.  Thanks are due to Pat Goodwin and especially to Michaela Hoover, Gene and Priscilla’s granddaughter, who have kept the Andover Library open.

Soon our new telescope will be ready for patrons to borrow. It will be going on a short trip to the New Hampshire Astronomical Society.  There it will be fitted with a new lens, new lens caps, instructions on how to use it, and a special pack containing important tools to help make the telescope easier and sturdier to use.

If you think you’d like to borrow this telescope soon, please do a little homework and check out the New Hampshire Astronomical Society’s (NHAS) website at NHastro.com. There you will find a section on the Library Telescope Program, and in that section you will find many videos about our new telescope and how to use it.

The NHAS is responsible for many libraries’ telescope programs, and we are delighted to join their ranks. We are also very grateful to the anonymous benefactor who gave the telescope to us.

WABL walkers are continuing to walk; come join us on these beautiful fall days.  We leave from the WA Bachelder Library at 10:30 AM on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Please let us know of any books you’d like us to purchase for the libraries. Please check the Beacon for a list of our recent acquisitions.
