Rebecca Rule, renowned New Hampshire storyteller, will spin tales at 4 PM on Sunday, June 11, at the North Wilmot Church, 3 Breezy Hill Road in North Wilmot.

The program, That Reminds Me of a Story, is hosted by the North Wilmot Union Meeting House Society (NWUMHS), and underwritten with a grant from New Hampshire Humanities To Go, is free and open to all.

Rule is a full-time writer, humorist, storyteller, host for 10 years of the New Hampshire Authors Series on NHPBS, currently host of Our Hometown on NHPBS. The author of a dozen books for children and adults, her latest is That Reminds Me of a Funny Story: a memoir, how-to, and compendium of yankee humor. For New Hampshire Magazine, she writes a monthly humor column called “Ayuh.”

For more than two decades, she has collected stories of New Hampshire, especially those that reflect what’s special about this rocky old place. She’ll tell some of those stories. Her favorites are the funny ones, and invites audience members to contribute a few stories of their own.

In 2022, the NWUMHS completed restoration of the windows and foundation at the North Wilmot Church. The exterior will be painted this summer.

When it was built in 1829, the church was known as the North Union Meeting House. It provided worship space for five denominations: Congregational, Christian Baptist, Freewill Baptist, Methodist, and Universalist. Known today as the North Wilmot Church, it has been owned by the NWUMHS since 1984.

At one time the church was the hub of activity in Fowlertown, a hill farm community. In 1850, the congregation moved the church to its current site on Breezy Hill Road in North Wilmot. The exterior, which is virtually unchanged since it was constructed, is distinguished by sophisticated details often found on larger religious buildings including a Palladian window, front pavilion, and Tuscan pilasters.

Other events scheduled for this year include ecumenical Sunday services at 10:45 AM on July 16, 23, and 30, and a hymn sing at 4 PM on August 6. The church is available for use by the public for weddings, memorial services, family reunions, and other celebratory events.
