WCA and Wilmot Library Plan a Summer of Fun

Press release

If you’re looking for fun and for local activities for the young and the young at heart, two Wilmot institutions, the Wilmot Community Association (WCA) and the Wilmot Public Library (WPL), have developed a suite of activities that will fit the bill.

“Why not beat the heat while giving your left and right brain a workout?” asked Patty McGoldrick, Executive Director of the WCA.

Mondays and Thursdays

Registration for the Library’s Summer Reading Program starts on Monday, June 24. The program starts on Monday, July 8, and will run Mondays and Thursdays through August 1.

The Summer Reading Program features three programs. Dig Into Reading, for children in grades one through five, will meet from 6:15 to 7:30 PM Mondays and Thursdays at the Wilmot Public Library, North Wilmot Road, Wilmot Center. It will include a project or program.

Beneath the Surface is for teens in grades six to 12, and Groundbreaking Reads is for adults 18 and older.  Both are self-paced reading programs. Each week participants turn in the number of pages they have read. For each 50 pages read, the participant is entered for a chance to win a prize.

Registration for these programs is available at the library Web site, wilmotlibrary.org, or starting June 24, during library hours.

Tuesdays

Sticks and Stones Summer Beach Crafts for Kids, a summer evening activity at the park for children, will be from 6:15 to 7:30 PM Tuesdays from July 9 through August 13 at the WCA’s Timmy Patten Park on Shindagan Road. If it rains, the program will be held at the WCA’s Red Barn, 64 Village Road.

Local artists Kristen Ash Chertikhin and Jaime Buteau will lead this fun activity. Participants,  youngsters four and older , will create whimsical pieces of art from natural objects and recyclables.

Participants can work in a relaxed environment and take a swim to cool off. Parents may bring a sand chair and visit with other parents or read a book.

Cost is $3 for WCA members and $5 for non-members. You can become a WCA member at  wilmotcommunityassociation.org/.

Wednesdays

The Mask Making Unmasked workshop will be led by puppeteers Jim Sims and Caroline Fairless and assisted by Margaret Monto, WCA Board member. Registration will be available from 9 AM to noon on Saturday, June 22, at the Education Tent during the Wilmot Farmers Market on the Town Green in Wilmot.

Workshop sessions will be from 6:15 to 7:30 PM Wednesdays from July 10 through August 14 at the WCA’s Red Barn, 64 Village Road, next door to the US Post Office. They will culminate with a performance of  Old Turtle and the Broken Truth, at 7 PM on Saturday, August 24, at the WCA’s Timmy Patten Park on Shindagan Road, Wilmot.

The WCA is open from 9 AM to noon on Mondays and Wednesdays and from 3 to 5:30 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. More information is available from the office at 526-7934 or at wilmotcommunityassociation.org.
