WCA Celebrates the Talents of Local Artists

The Wilmot Community Association (WCA) and the Wilmot Farmers Market will present “Imagination into Art,” an artists’ exhibit and sale opening with a reception from 4:30 to 7 PM, Friday, July 26 at the WCA’s Red Barn, 64 Village Road, next to the U.S. Post Office in Wilmot Flat.

The event will continue from 9 AM to Noon, Saturday, July 27 at the WCA’s Red Barn and at the Wilmot Farmers Market. Both venues are on Village Road in Wilmot.

Local artists participating include Jeffrey Blackman, photography; Dick Chase, turned wood; Kristen Ash Chertikhin, multimedia; Peter Ensign, prints; Linda Ewing, photography; Caroline Fairless, ceramics; Pam Ilg, interpretive painting with flowers; Zack Jonas, knives; Ann Feeley Kieffer, sculpture; John J. Koron, oil paintings; Carolyn Lamb, braided rugs; Mary Jane Peabody, hooked rugs; Bob Rex, found objects collage; Nancy Schlosser, quilts; Kristin Tupper, watercolors; and Sam Wild, pottery.

“We are thrilled to showcase the works of so many talented, local artists,” said Judy Hauck, coordinator of Imagination into Art. “The WCA promotes the community and the Farmers Market promotes locally produced products, so this is a fabulous collaboration for these two organizations.”

During the reception, visitors will meet the artists while enjoying a selection of hors d’oeurvres made by Laura Powers, owner of Andover-based Extraordinary Taste, and members of the WCA.

Girl Reading, a sculpture made by Mahlon Hoagland, a world-renowned scientist and Hauck’s father, will be on display. Proceeds from the silent auction of the sculpture will benefit the WCA.

Iris and Fence, an oil painting by Townsend Howe donated to the Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department by the Howe family, will be on display. The fire department will sell a limited number of raffle tickets. Proceeds will fund improvements at the firehouse.

Saturday morning some of the exhibitors will demonstrate a work-in-progress at the Farmers Market allowing visitors to see the process of imagination evolving into art, Hauck said.

Admission to the reception Friday evening is a requested donation of $15.

The WCA, established in 1963 with the purpose of bringing neighbors together, is celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2013.
