Invitation to Veterans Day 2012

Dear Andover Veteran,

You are cordially invited to Andover Elementary/Middle School on Wednesday, November 7, at 9 AM for our traditional Veterans Day program. Our school community will come together to honor our nation’s military veterans, past and present, and it will mean a lot to us if you can attend. All members of the Andover community are invited.

It is an important goal of our school community to educate our students on the contributions veterans have made throughout the years. We celebrate America’s veterans for keeping this nation “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” This has grown to become a significant event at AE/MS and one we look forward to every November.

I am very excited to announce that Lieutenant Colonel Michael Moffett (USMC, retired) is our guest speaker. Lt. Col. Moffett served in the liberation of Kuwait during Desert Storm and following the September 11 attacks, Lt. Col. Moffett returned to active duty to serve with General Tommy Franks at Central Command for Operation Enduring Freedom. Lt. Col. Moffett most recently served as a field historian in Afghanistan. Lt. Col. Moffett has returned to his native New Hampshire and teaches at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord.

Students will all have a role in the program as they express their gratitude and respect for our veterans through musical selections, readings, art, and other presentations.

Please plan to remain after the ceremony for refreshments, a group photo, and a chance to visit with other veterans. The eighth grade students will once again serve veterans in the Eagle Café. This was very popular last year.

I hope that you will join us on Wednesday, November 7, at 9 AM for a very special morning. We look forward to seeing you!

Sincerely,

Jane Slayton
